Skills & Training

Help us identify new types of ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ skills that today’s young people might need to succeed in the workplace, and the ways in which they’re being acquired.

As new sectors and technologies emerge, there’s also a need to develop skills beyond those traditionally taught within formal education and training. What are some skills – soft and hard – you have encountered that you think are important for young people to acquire in order to succeed in the workplace?

New training and learning models are also emerging that help people to acquire and sharpen their skills outside of their formal education. We’d love you to share any examples you’ve seen of new and inspiring ways to develop soft or hard skills that are happening beyond the classroom.

There are so many lucky people who actually have the skill set and education required for the desired job but they blow it with very simple things like doing their research before interview, putting the right dates in cover letters etc.

Developing work-ready young people can begin with a great teacher and plenty of encouragement. Join a programme in your community where your talents and interests can be harnessed to help achieve this aim. I did.

Young people are not getting the skills needed to compete via the classroom. Part of the challenge is these skills are complex and collaborative. We need forums for current and future leaders to experiment and co-create methodologies together

Learning doesn't end in school. When you emerge into the world of work, you're equipped with all sorts of tools and skills to create, but those skills and talents will be ever changing.

Each year, the "best and brightest" class graduates through some of the nation's top universities. However, as we all know, the best and brightest have performed poorly in the job market as of late.
