guideBOOK for parents

Focused on parents, the guideBOOK could be an online and mobile platform that gives parents suggestions for how to further the motivations and reach-for-the-moon dreams of their children that are appropriate for their developmental stage.

What if your child wants to design a spaceship to explore the Milky Way? Or become a deep sea explorer? This platform gives parents a guiding light to navigate what is likely an unknown path toward their child’s dreams. We can give parents the tools and expert-based networks they need to give children concrete learning experiences toward their goals.

It's true.  A lot of times the dreams of our youth morph and flip over the years to result in, for example, a product designer instead of an astronaut (I speak from personal experience here).  That's ok.  The point of this concept is to teach the overall notion that achieving a dream is possible.

guideBOOKs can be defined and built on by an online community of entrepreneurs, scientists, marketing professionals, astronauts... These should be refined to provide a number of small, achievable steps that young people can take to discover more about their passion at any age.

By enabling parents to guide their children with tangible learning experiences and contacts in the field, we give the next generation the hope and mindset that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

This concept needs to provide realistic, development-appropriate guideBOOKs for a wide array of potential paths. Building the initial framework seems daunting, but would be extremely rewarding!

How will your concept support young people as they transition into the world of work?

This concept can instill an attitude that someone can achieve anything they set their minds to using the notion of small successes and learning experiences. It supports the parent-child bond, which can give young people the confidence they need to put themselves and their ideas on the line. By linking young people with experts, excitement and inspiration to achieve a dream can be directly promoted.

What online or in-person components of your concept will best support this transition?

This concept is an online and mobile platform that is easily accessible by parents and children, and can transition with someone as they grow up.

Maegan I love this idea, especially how you've tapped into a young person's support system to help them dream big – and understand what it'll take to achieve their dreams.

Thanks Ashley. I am already finding a lot of supporting material that can be used to flesh out this concept. It will be fun to develop!

I'm totally behind this idea! Particularly the notion of keeping kids on track with their initial "I want to grow up to be an astronaut!" dreams.

Hi Maegan -- Thank you for sharing this amazing concept.

When I got the idea for the concept 'The Buddy System', I was thinking about other people of great influence in a young person's life -- namely older siblings and peers. I was thinking, what if these siblings and peers were better empowered to support young people (and each other) with the information, opportunities, etc needed to to succeed in the world of work?

I hadn't given that much thought to parents. But your concept reminds us all that parents (whatever shape or form) are usually our greatest champions and therefore our greatest influencers.

These guidebooks would make remarkable gifts of inspiration, purpose and direction, while also rekindling that 'guidance' bridge between parents and today's youth.
