Learning Beyond Boundaries

Using technology to create a more pluralistic and a global learning system. Students and teachers from different countries will work together virtually, sitting in their own classrooms. Goal is prepare young people to be part of a global workforce.

The program aims to initiate global and pluralistic learning experience by blending technology with education. High Schools from different countries will connect via latest networking and communication technologies. Various educational initiatives like assemblies, teacher forums, group projects,  presentations, collective classes etc will be implemented in these schools. Students and teachers from different countries will work together virtually, sitting in their own classrooms. The overall experience is intended to foster global learning and encourage appreciation of different cultures and create global citizens.

How will your concept support young people as they transition into the world of work?

Working effectively in a multicultural team is one of the very critical skills that our young leaders would require in this time and age. Globalization has create the need of a workforce that understands different cultures and is able to effectively bring people with different value systems to work toward a common goal. This program aims to provide young people with the awareness about global issues, the opportunity to learn new languages and new approaches to problem solving. Physical cultural exchange programs have been designed for high school students to provide this opportunity but not everyone can participate in it due to the cost and time associated. Students being able to indulge in global learning, ‘virtually’ with the same level of richness in the experience will definitely result in tremendous outcomes.

What online or in-person components of your concept will best support this transition?

1. Exchange of ideas between global students and educators would lead to unimaginable innovation. 2. Activities like assemblies and group projects will provide students with skills to effectively work in a global team. 3. Interactions with classrooms in other countries will provide students the opportunity to learn new language and get an awareness about different cultures and belief systems.

What if you invited youth from all over the world to a virtual space where they had to address a specific challenge?

This challenge could be something like teaching better sex ed and HIV prevention in South Africa or how to combat power outages in rural india. You would then ask youth to form "global" teams with youth from other countries to come up with a solution.

The best ideas could compete for funding and get the materials and tools necessary to turn their ideas into action. Those team members would then become mentors and coaches for the next teams that form.
