Codecademy co-founder Zach Sims' says that "coding is the new literacy" — and I couldn't agree more. Their Code Summer+ initiative launched a few years ago and is based around the White House's Summer+ and Youth Jobs+ Education program helps to get more kids (and adults) learning to code.

Imagine the employment opportunities that become available for youth who have even basic coding knowledge. Their logic skills alone are invaluable.

More on the program here and at Codecademy's blog here.

Great share, Katie – not only because of the growing opportunities for those who code – but because of the canny leverage of student downtime over summer. Also interesting that they're shifting to offline meetups alongside their online engagement. Even with all our switched on tech developments, people find value in connecting in-person.
