Technology as an accelerator...

I believe that given the opportunity young people will want to better themselves and their social situation. One of the most inspiring talks that I have seen was from Sugata Mitra: The Child-driven education. They placed technology in poor rural communities with these computers children taught themselves. Perhaps the questions should rather be: 1. How can we provide basic, low cost technology hardware to the developing world? (i.e through organisation like Computer Aid http://www.computeraid.org/ or The World Computer Exchange http://www.worldcomputerexchange.org/) 2. How can we provide free access to internet for young people?

Steve thanks for sharing this great video on Project Loon! Increasing the access of online resources for developing regions has a lot of potential to create better educational and employment opportunities on a widespread scale. I know the One Laptop per Child program has been tackling this issue for a while. And more recently, Facebook and Google are also pushing to spread internet access through the use of balloons and drones. It would also be interesting to look into some success stories of how a developing area has created more job opportunities once internet access was established!
