Rethinking the "gap" year

A few very inspiring organizations are supporting the potential for using the "gap year" as a "bridge year," creating programs that help to build experience, connect with new opportunities, work on projects, build a business, and explore future paths.

I love this idea - the Gap Year (whether right after school or later in life - I have taken several smaller breaks) can be such an enriching and purposeful time. But often I have observed it become: bumbling around, not sure what you want, doing dead-end jobs, anxiety about what happens afterwards, a bit of travel...

Perhaps we need a resource: a guide to meaningful / life changing / (insert other word) Gap Years... with a mentor from the Gap Year Alumni to support, and perhaps even sponsored by organisations that will offer employment at the end.
