Project based learning
By re-focusing childhood education on project & practice-based learning, students are better equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the working world. Students don't need more memorization of facts, but need to practice learning in an environment that is:
- Applicable to real-world situations + workplaces
- Assessed holistically
When reflecting on my own education, I recognize that too much of my time in school was based dealing in abstract problems. I think this focus can leave many students unprepared for the transition to the working world.
The guidelines outlined on http://www.edutopia.org/project-based-learning provide a starting point for future educational design.
