The loops and tangles of issues.

In India, I believe the problem of women safety transcends from being a problem of opportunity to a mixed tangled problem of mindset and culture and many other things. Somehow talking about women safety and not talking about problems like infanticide, dowry, low/no education , discrimination at home doesn't fully cover the problem well. I think what we need is no less than a cultural breakthrough where we break the barriers of irrational practices and create an openness about opportunities that comes with change and this can't be done until all of men and women alike join hands!

I was born and brought up in India, and as a woman and a third girl child, I have seen, heard, experienced many anecdotes and stories to put together a tangled web of issues.
I think the web of issues are intertwined and so related that it is difficult to separate one with the other. The picture shows the different problems a girl faces, a woman faces and even a female foetus faces in our country.

The web of problems though seems intimidating and very complex, it also gives us the insight and understanding of leverage points. It helps us view our problem at hand from multiple angles and give us different perspective on the problem, several nodes to find and course-correct

It was interesting to see how discriminating between children harms both the boy and the girl. In someways the perceived advantage/ favour (the higher pedestal in the pic) is quite temporary. We might be making them more self centered and thereby preventing them from having meaningful relationships later in life.

When I was doodling the picture out, I wondered what should be the first stage of the loop? At the core of the problem, where do you think the problem starts?
