The Internet.org project

There is this Internet.org project of Mark Zuckerberg aiming at connecting people in low income areas. The idea is to make basic services accessible to everyone free of charge - i.e. FB will be free of charge but also messaging for example. Some of the projects already going on include an educational project with Globe in the Philippines. Big telecommunication companies are already involved Ericsson, Mediatek, Opera Software, Samsung, etc. They are currently looking into developing more partnerships Since this project is already targeting more or less the same kind of areas the OpenIdeo challenge is looking into, it can be interesting to develop an app or phone-based solution that can be integrated through the project-see Nettra Pan's idea

I saw this presentation of the Internet.org project by chance and I see now that the OpenIdeo project can benefit from all that has already been developed in the Internet.org project and maybe the research that has been conducted so far as well as the partnerships already put in place. I have a contact at Globe in the Philippines and will try to approach her with this idea of safety and security and see what her feedback would be.
