Men walk a mile in her shoes to fight against gender based violence

“You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” That’s why the Toronto based initiative asks men to put on a pair of high heels and join the White Ribbon Campaign to Walk A Mile in Her Shoes®, to help end violence against women and girls, one man-sized step at a time. By wearing heels and acting in solidarity with women, they want to show that men will do whatever it takes to make this a safer world for everyone.

I think this is a symbolic and powerful way of showing the importance of empathy towards another gender. This kind of walk is also a good way to gain attention, media coverage and can work well to build awarness around the issue.

Yes, I love this as an example of an event and campaign to raise awareness. And, it is always great to have men leading the way in profiling the issue and conveying their interest -- it is not just a women's issue -- and support. It would be great to have programs tied to it that lead to pledges and behavior change.
