Crowd sourced platforms to educate and empower women and young girls for their own safety

I have been using crowd sourced platforms to make little girls and womenin our community aware of their vulnerability and the tricks they can learn to ward of abuse. You tube and Vimeo have freely available videos which I run on donated computers and broadband connection in my community,in a local government school. target audience: Children of maids, manual labor class, women of lower income group eg those running very small tea stalls, vegetable vendors etc. Points that are covered:1) Educating this group that they are highly vulnerable to such abuse, but not be helpless,Boosting confidence in this manner.2)Showing videos of self defense 3)How to approach help and authorities and not feel ashamed to disclose the abuse.4)spread the message.

I would like to gather pictures of my initiative and upload in due course.
The project started with an increase in unpleasent incidences with women in the neighbourhood. My maid just stopped coming to work one day.On repeated questioning also she did not disclose the abuse that she had to go through at the hands street rogues. The reason for keeping quite was that people would consider her the culprit, the norm in our society is to blame the woman that she brought it on herself, whenever she suffers abuse. The most vulnerable group is the women of lower income groups.(to be continued..)

Great stuff, Richa! What might be really helpful is if you could interview some of the women and girls you've been working with so we can hear about their perspectives. When you get time, you could check out our Interview Toolkit: and give it a try. We're excited to have you join us on this challenge...
