Creating a 'Sanctuary City' for Undocumented Migrants

Yesterday, the City of Hamilton in Ontario, Canada, declared itself a 'sanctuary city', making municipal services available to all residents, regardless of their immigration status.

Toronto actually made a similar move last year to make itself a 'sanctuary'. The goal of all of this is to create a safer community, where the most vulnerable can access the support they need (especially without the fear of deportation and other penalties).

I am very happy that these two cities have decided to go in this direction. Canada might be known to many outsiders as a place full of diversity, but we still have a very long way to go until the whole country becomes a 'sanctuary' for ethnic minority residents and undocumented migrants.

Interesting to see where tolerance, acceptance and government intersect!
