Provide a short description of your idea

My idea is a rescue based programme to provide medical and legal assistance to victims of gender based violence more so rape in kibera which is rampant due to poor insecurity, drug abuse and poverty. It tackles the problem of lack of medical care, legal representation, safe house, safety, psychosocial support and education. It addresses the problem by rescuing the victim, provision of medical care and service, providing the victim safety, providing legal aid ,continues counseling services and education where necessary.
This project shall have a center with a well structured work force that shall consist of call center with a customer care with free to call online telephone help line whom when contacted will inform a rescue team that consist of a paramedic team, investigating  and probing officers. This team shall use an ambulance to access  the scene/ victim.Once on the site this team shall conduct a situation analysis and undertake the rescue procedure that involves helping the victim get medical help, collecting materials neccesary to provide evidence during prosecution in court, reporting the matter to the police in less than 24 hours. As this process is undertaking place the victim will be accomodated in the bording facility of this center for easier access, close monitoring and for her own safety and protection from the papetrator who might  still be at large by then.At the center the victim shall undergo counselling sessions and be helped with legal representation at the court once the case has been filed in court and due for hearing, transport during the medical examination, counselling session and court hearings.

Explain your idea in one sentence.

Brigde of Hope Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, a world class center with a team that provides a safe haven for the women and girls in kibera slums

What is the need you are trying to solve?

Injusctice and hopellessness in society. This project seeks to provide medication, shelter, justice, food, education and counseling services to girls and women who have undergone or are victims of sexual and gender based violence such as rape, defilement, drug abuse etc whose numbers continue to rise daily in kibera.

Who will benefit from this idea and how would you monitor its success?

This project/program will benefit young girls and women, children and community within Kibera and beyond its boundaries who are faced with sexual and gender based violence ordeals on a daily basis and are unable to access basic help and justice that they dearly need. Sensitization of community members and propagators of social ills will help curb future practices. This project shall be monitored through the number of victims rescued and rehabilitated, number of cases reported and continous assessment of victims on the basis of quality and quantity of services provided to the community members.Victims shall be registered and a follow up be done with constant update done on their case study after every follow up.

Who would be best equipped to implement this idea in the real world? You? Your organisation? Another organisation or entity?

The Drug fighters and Counseling for the Young Generation which is a Community Based Organization based in kibera with one of its programs being CHILDREN RESCUE AND REHABILITATION. Drug fighters has three hundred children in its Bridge of Hope school, a rescue and rehabilitation school program for children who are orphans, abandoned and vulnerable children in drugs and substance abuse & desperate children, through a holistic approach that provides meals, education, security seeking to improve the children’s lifestyle by providing a conducive friendly growth environment.

Where should this idea be implemented?

This idea should be implemented in Kibera slums in Nairobi Kenya. This informal settlement is faced with various challenges from insecurity, high cost of living, poor housing, unemployment, drug abuse, prostitution with an average of about more than 20 cases of gender based violence reported daily and many more going unreported because of fear of victimization, isolation and discrimination.

How might you prototype this idea and test some of the assumptions behind it?

This idea has been tried ,tested and found achievable for instance last year we rescued a girl from the hands of a gang of perpetrators who had abducted ,locked in a house and repeatedly raped her for several days.We were called in by a community member who informed us about the girl and where she was being locked,on receiving the news,we gathered a few youths who accompanied us to the house, where they broke the door opened and we gained access to the girl.We called in for an ambulance which took her to the hospital for treatment and later we reported the matter to the police who took action following due process of the law and currently the girl is housed at the center under going counseling while attending school within the center.

What might a day in the life of a community member interacting with your idea look like?

Women and girls of Kibera slums in Nairobi Kenya benefit from this programme by being provided with an opportunity to be able to access free rescue services, free counseling services, medical care, legal representation, shelter and education after undergoing through a gender based violence ordeal.

Thanks for your observation and advice but i would love to know if you are asking for a case study as an example to paint a picture on how this idea is to be implemented.

No – doesn't need to be a case study. Can just be a short hypothetical scenario(s) like in the example I shared.
