The idea of ‘green office’ is not a brand-new concept. Nature is good for us. Introducing it to the office can improve the health standard of employees and the take the edge out of a stressful workday. When we think of bringing nature into the office, plants first come to mind!

But do you think having one or two pots of plant sit on your work desk will really make a different?

What we need is a system to improve the current green office. A working environment which is low cost and easy to set up. And most impotently, is including office worker to join the maintaining process. This concept office table has four build in plant pot on both side of each working desk allow the users to grow their own plant in office. Instead of have normal desk lamp, there also be a UV light provide on the work station so the plant can grow in the suitable environment. The choose of plant can be anything. A good suggestion is the grow mint as it can act as an air freshening. In the middle of the desk there is a fish tank. Allow user to decorate their fish tank and bring in their fish from home! During the lunch breaks, employees have to takes in turns to change the water in the tank and water the plant. However, functionally of the system has to be suitable for office employees working in office environment. This means allow computer and other storage area to be including in the office as well as the fish tank and plant pot.

What are the benefits of your concept for the individual and the employer?

As working is part of everyone’s life, where is no reason that we should stop enjoy our working time. Bring the plant you grow at home into your work desk, feed your fish in your lunch break! There is no reason to not do this things in office, that like you are at home…….longest it does not affect your work ability! Feeling working at home will make workers more comfortable and relax lead to less stress, lower health care costs and less sick days.

What might the impact of your concept be and how might it be measured?

The positive impact on employees would be less sick days as there is less stress and working in and comfortable environment! Therefore, employers would not lose money, human resources and opportunity!
However, the environment could be a distraction to worker. As well as including the user on the maintaining process, there should be a balance taken so it could not affect the office works.

How might your concept be designed to scale and spread to reach as many people as possible?

This idea can be including in all the office as most offices. Giving out a few table for free to big company to let the employees have a go. Teaming up with Non-governmental organization e.g. WWF, Green Power.

How might you design a small experiment around your concept that would mobilise action?

Before introducing to large office, experiment on the table should be done in a small company, than get feedback from their employees using questionnaires. This allows the table to be improvement fitted the need of the end user.
