Seed Enterprise Incentive Scheme, SEIS (as a downloadable PDF), has earned praise as the best tax incentive for startups ever introduced by the UK Government, offering excellent incentives when Founders to raise up to £150,000.

The benefit is to the investors at this very early stage (but this therefore makes it easier for the startup to raise the capital).  In short, any investor that invests up to £50,000 will receive 50 per cent income tax relief on the amount invested. In addition, any investor that then holds the investment for three years will pay no capital gains on the investment.

This is expected to drive investments in very early stage businesses in the UK but I have been a little surprised at the lack of press it has generated.

Here is a great article outlining the impact of the recent UK budget on startups from The Kernel.
