How does your idea apply new technologies to make agriculture and water systems more resilient in the face of climate threats?

We capture fat, oil and grease waste at source in food businesses. This not only prevents fatbergs with causes environmental pollution and reduces sewer capacity, but also, we recover this waste resource for reuses.

SwiftComply is a platform solution that connects all stakeholders in the Fat, Oil & Grease (FOG) value chain, and enables the effective recovery and reuse of FOG waste.

Unlike current solutions in this sector, which use technology to replace pen & paper, SwiftComply provides a solution that tackles the primary problem, which is the discharge of FOG to sewers. This solution is a co-regulation approach, built on trust, communication and transparency.

SwiftComply is free for all stakeholders to access, and we partner with cities to ensure the solution reaches its maximum potential. We make money by charging a transaction fee on services purchased through the platform, similar to how Uber, AirB&B and many other successful companies operate.

The SwiftComply approach is unique, as instead of regulating food businesses, cities can oversee the delivery of the services by trusted and vetted service providers. This approach reduces the burden of regulation on business, improves capture of FOG waste and ensures efficient recovery for reuse.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

The solution has been piloted in Dublin, Ireland

We are excited to learn about ideas at diverse stages of development. At what stage would you currently classify your idea as? (multiple choice)

  • Full Scale Roll-Out: I have completed a pilot and analyzed the results. I am ready to expand the pilot significantly.
  • Operating Business: I have fulfilled the stages of testing, undertaken a full scale roll-out, and am currently operating this idea as a business.

How do you plan to grow or scale this idea?

We will partner with cities to reach a large number of customers at a density that allows us to scale

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

We believe some original and diverse thinking will help us develop and refine our business model
