Voting At Your Fingertips - Biometric App

Given our mobile and digital lifestyles, we should no longer need to physically go somewhere to vote. There should be a means of voting via cell phone with the security of biometric verification.

For smart phones, there could be a voting application where the phone's camera is activated to scan the user's eye, or the user could have their fingerprint scanned and verified. For those without smart phones, there could be a "vote by SMS" service where one would have to verify their identity through a number of PIN codes. Both means would be equipped with voice guidance to help individuals navigate their way through the process.

I love this idea. I did lots of work with biometrics about 8 years ago when it was a new, exciting technology. It's inclusive and unique which really would help reduce barriers to allowing everyone to vote!

I am very interested to hear more about this idea in the concepting phase as well. This allows people to vote from many different places (which can raise comfort levels for some people, cuts cost for others and may be less time consuming for many) and it addresses security, which I believe to be important factors for people who aren't currently voting.

Great thoughts. After all, matching a face to a picture id (which is a common current form of identity verification at physical polling faces) is also a form of biometrics, whether digital or analog.

This is cool Alissa! I think ideas like this are huge in moving toward trying to navigate the challenges surrounding what remote voting looks like. I am looking forward to seeing the conversation around online/digital/mobile voting develop, and I hope this type of technology gets pulled into that conversation. I also just read this inspiration that way up the same alley: http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/vote-from-anywhere/
