Make voting switch accessible!

Switch accessible voting systems can facilitate an accessible election experience for people with mobility impairments. Standards-compliant switch access systems like Tecla Access for Android can be leveraged to achieve this with minimal effort.

Switch accessible voting systems can facilitate an accessible election experience for people with mobility impairments.

This can be achieved in at least two ways:
  1. By making electronic voting machines compatible with switch access interfaces such as the Tecla Shield, voters with mobility impairments can use their adapted switches or wheelchair driving controls to cast their vote in person.
  2. By making a standards-compliant, online voting portal, users with mobility impairments can leverage computer and mobile switch access systems like the Tecla App for Android to cast their vote online.

The video included with this idea demonstrates how David, Chief Advocacy Officer at Komodo OpenLab, uses the Tecla Access system, which already enables him to access his mobile phone independently, to navigate to an online portal and cast a vote using the adapted joystick attached to his wheelchair.
