Finding Inspiration in Detroit's Eastern Market

Detroit's Eastern Market is a local food market that draws up to 40,000 visitors each Saturday. Locally grown fruits and veggies, baked goods, and local crafts are for sale at this vibrant market. There's music, smiling, laughing, and sharing.

I went to Detroit's Eastern Market for the first time this weekend. It was amazing to see the abundance of locally grown produce, flowers, and local crafts and tasty treats. There were people from all walks of life--old and young, native Detroiters, and visitors, and it was wonderful to see such a lively community. There was such a sense of positivity and happiness--I'm looking forward to going back!

Great post Sara. I live in Baltimore and think that the covered neighborhood markets similar to this one that we have here are definitely an example of vibrancy and coming-together in spite of a lot of neighborhood decay. There has been movement here to bring more fresh foods into these markets because most of the stall have become small carry-out restaurants.
