Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: possibilities?

With a couple inspirations pointing out the potential for using UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) to gather information from hard-to-access areas to prevent atrocities, just wanted to explore the possibilities of this a little more.

UAVs are being used for an increasing number of applications: movie and sports event filming, tracking wildfires, surveying agriculture crops, locating illegal trafficking, etc.

The technologies for this continue to advance, from increased capabilities, such as equipping with a hacked together 1.8 gigapixel sensor array that can record an area half the size of Manhattan, and track moving objects as small as 6 inches from 20,000 feet in the air:

To new levels of accessibility and affordability.

In fact, then UN's first deployment of unmanned aircraft to help peacekeepers may come as early as this June in the rugged hills of Eastern Congo:
