EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

insight: - almost 4 billion people live in cities and by 2045, that number is expected to reach 6 billion. - Residents of slums already face challenges accessing safe housing, water and other basic resources. (why: population is increasing faster than improving living circumstances) What they need: - to feel empowered - easy digestible information, that is free, to the point and actionable - right info at right time - encouragement to share ideas, ask questions Assumptions - they dont have easy access to information that they can adapt easily - they get overwhelmed when they get approached by an NGO who wants to help - at the moments they get information, it might not be relevant idea about the comms service: - create a txt based service which will share actionable information around the key topics: waste, health, safety & infrastructure - information comes from all smaller NGO's that are trying to make a difference in local urban slums - information is being filtered by 1 overarching organisation idea how it functions for the community: - community can assign for free to this service, they will receive daily/weekly actionable tips, they can ask for more info / ask a question / share feedback & share ideas - to get a new tip they need to request (leave action with person) - all data coming back from the community will be used to adjust the actionable tips, to work with governmental and to learn what is relevant to them

WHO BENEFITS?

NGO's: in terms of collaborating and getting more information back from the community by sharing and learning from each other Communities: getting daily/weekly actionable information that they can use straight away to improve their live conditions in the slums encouragement to ask questions and share ideas empowerment how to improve their lives Government: by working with this service they have a new resource and ONE voice to help them understand what's going on in the communities

HOW DOES YOUR IDEA TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CONTEXT OF URBAN SLUMS AND CLIMATE CHANGE?

We focus on bringing an actionable message across to improve the everyday lives of urban slum citizens We start with information already gathered by local charities and NGOs trying to improve the situation based on climate change issues by bundling this information, breaking it down into tangible and actionable pieces The aim is to be agile and flexible by feeding in constant new informations from NGOs/charities and also from the community based on feedback and ideas they might send Because this is not created by external parties but local organisations who have been working with these communities and the community itself, the solutions will be low costs and based on tools/resources that are at hand for the people

Nice idea An. When thinking about accessing information, the first thing that came to my mind is online communication, which is fast and up to date. Then I realized that people in slum communities may not have high coverage of the internet. So I think your idea of a txt based service is more practicable.

Hi June, yes that was exactly why I chose txt and this method has already been proven successful with NGO's starting a conversation with the community in african countries. Also the network running of txt is still more reliable than the current 3G/4G network
