SMALL-SCALE INFRASTRUCTURE

How might small infrastructural projects prepare urban slums for the effects of climate change?

Crowding, unreliable water supplies and poorly built structures present dangers for the residents of urban slums. As climate change drives more people to cities, increases the frequency of extreme heat, and causes rainfall to be more erratic, how might we improve the physical environment?

Let’s think about small ways – like green roofs, rainwater catchment systems and building techniques – that can transform the existing infrastructure in slums, using readily-available resources wherever possible.
