Climate change will increase the pace of the constant change that characterizes urban slums. People come and go, new structures pop up and others are demolished as access to resources ebbs and flows. Because of this, it can be difficult to understand the needs of these communities. Many times, their voices go unheard by urban decision makers.
Let’s think of how we can support the ability of urban slum communities to identify and articulate their needs to each other – and also to the cities they are part of, both on a day-to-day basis and during emergencies.
