What specific problem(s) are you trying to address?

With the introduction of 12Y education system, the number of unwanted pregnancy in schools increased to 17,500 children between 14 and 18 years in 2016. One of the cause mentioned is the lack of sexuality information and discussion between children, parents and teachers. In addition of more than 75,000 refugees from RDC and 80,000 Refugees from Burundi, Rwanda will be one of the country with vulnerable lives of children exposed to rape, unwanted pregnancy and VIH contamination resulting on lack of sexual and reproductive health education and services. We want to benefit from 75% mobile users in the country to promote the informal and education content on sexual and reproductive and stop the stigma the concerned was facing before.

What are some of your unanswered questions about the problem(s) you are working to address?

Will the telecommunication companies facilitate us to get access to our end users identification?numbers, age, gender and location?

Explain Your Idea

Bulk messaging is the dissemination of large numbers of SMS messages for delivery to mobile phone terminals. It is commonly used by media companies, enterprises, banks and consumer brands for a variety of purposes including entertainment, enterprise and mobile marketing. Our Idea is to use that platform for adolescents'health and right campaign. Our work will consist on the design of educational content based on the challenges that adolescents are facing and make implementation via Bulk messaging platform. The content will be designed and send based on the age, gender and location of end users. This campaign will create awareness on sexual and reproductive health education and services both for children living in families and refugees. Based on age we will create content for parents and for adolescents because we know that the good education start from the family.

Name the three most important ways that your idea will address your identified problem(s).

It is an obligation that mobile users register their SIM CARD. One of the documents used to register the sim card is the ID card. So from the ID it is very easy to know the age and gender of the user. And the software we will use will help use to specify the location of the users: 1. The content will be designed and send based on end users age, gender and location 2. No need of the internet connection or to recharge the end users account. 3. The end users can request the information/or content by sms or voice call for free. Those tree points will help us to communicate with end users, provide them specified content at the same way conserving their privacy.

How is your idea unique?

We differ from other with our mobile platform and software which are free for users. One content can reach millions of peoples at the same time, at different location by keeping them anonymously. our society do believe that sexual issues must be kipped in secret and privacy. We will start from that concept of privacy and provide them our services at their home, in their hands. No infrastructures are needed in order to provider our services, and our services are free of charges.

Who are your end users?

Adolescents’ health and rights are not limited on the adolescents ages. It is a society issues. Reason why our end users are divided into groups depending on age, sex and location. The benefits are directly addressed to adolescents between 10 to 18 years old and indirectly to the whole society. Depending on the groups, the benefits are: 1. Adolescents: accessing sexual and reproductive health education and services which will protect them of unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, sexually transmitted infections, and high-risk childbirths. 2. Parents: will receive necessary package to protect their children from the mentioned problem.

Where will your idea be implemented?

  • Rwanda

Tell us more about the emergency setting that you intend to implement in

Until now, Rwandan are living with the consequences of 1994 Genocide and different wars in the region. To that, in Rwanda lives more than 200,000 refugees from Congo and Burundi. Those factors in additional of our cultural make our children more vulnerable and exposed.
