What specific problem(s) are you trying to address?

Conflict and disaster can leave people not only homeless, but force them out of their towns and cities. This product aims to address the problem that occurs when women are dislocated and find themselves somewhere in which they don't know where to find care or don't have access to it at all.

What are some of your unanswered questions about the problem(s) you are working to address?

The price of producing such a product, what items should be prioritized in order to keep it small, how to simplify maps while keeping them useful, and distribution.

Explain Your Idea

The product would be equipped with simple reproductive care products and rape prevention tools that a woman can administer herself (reusable reproductive health sanitation devices, mace, rape whistle) as well as come equipped with a compass and map that relies on imagery and distinct landmarks to assist women in finding certified clinics as soon as possible if they need more intensive help.

Name the three most important ways that your idea will address your identified problem(s).

This product would help dislocated women in the short term by giving them the tools to help themselves and keep themselves in good reproductive health. However, should something occur the product assists women by leading them somewhere they can seek out additional medical attention if needed if they are unaware of where to go due to being unfamiliar with their surroundings. This product would also help these women by providing trustworthy information so that women go to legitimate and certified clinics and do not put themselves further at risk by putting their lives in the hands of strangers who may agree to help them will ill intent.

How is your idea unique?

This idea helps women with both prevention and recovery by providing the tools needed for the prior service and how to find the former..

What are some outstanding concerns or questions that you have regarding your idea?

A problem that must be addressed with this idea is assuring that health clinics we put on the maps provided in this device stay credible and that maps provide information that do not rely to heavily on information that could change in the near future.

Who are your end users?

Pubescent women who have been displaced for a long period of time with no other resources or connections to fall back on. Realistically it may be difficult to reach this demographic as it is difficult to locate them.

Hi Rose,
You can add more tools in your products, that can help women before reaching the facility. The tools can include emergency contraceptives(within 72 hours), post exposure HIV prophylaxis and first aid kits for physical injuries. You may need to train few people who can work as community health workers, who may be helpful in HIV counseling and testing prior to the administration of post rape exposure prophylaxis. They can also help in administering family planning methods.
