Explain Your Idea
The key problems faced by OVC in the state and in particular Akpabuyo LGA are listed as follows:
Lack of funds to access quality education and provision of basic school needs.
Malnutrition because of food insecurity.
Lack of access to quality health care.
Low socio-economic status of the caregivers.
None or low empowerment for older OVCs.
Age Care Foundation hopes to place the most in need vulnerable children in Ten (10) communities in the following LGA of Calabar Municipal, Calabar South, Odukpani, Akamkpa Akpabuyo and Bakassi LGAs in schools (Primary and secondary). On the area of food insecurity, it hopes to train caregivers on homestead farming in order to ensure affordable sustainable basic food through the use and sale of produce from the farm as well as train the caregivers on micro-enterprise fundamentals on the running of small scale businesses.
It equally plans to network with other CBOs and LGA’s Desk Officers in core thematic areas concerned with OVC programming to ensure proper co-ordination and monitoring for effective and efficient use of resources. Our organization is already networking with other CSOs on Project where OVC programming is our core priority. All the enrolled OVC and their caregivers will be provided with; HIV testing and counselling services, as well as screened for TB and linked for care promptly as appropriate. At each stage, the community stakeholders will be carried along to ensure a conducive and enabling environment.
