The refugee in Uganda for instance needs (1) to understand while in a learning session, (2)to also interact with other community members (non-refugees) whether during the learning process or not because our ability to cope with the surrounding environment also affects the learning process and welfare, and (3) to sustain access to education and learning opportunities, the refugee needs to be financial empowered so that they do not always rely on handouts/aid because future generations need to sustainably access similar opportunities in a more self-reliant manner. Underlying issues need to be addressed if a refugee is to live an independent self-reliant life.

How might we improve language learning platforms and ensure livelihood diversification for refugees in Uganda?

Thanks for sharing these insights on the barriers that's hindering refugee education in Uganda Stella. We're also excited to see from the photos that you and your team have been engaged in human-centered design workshops. Are you currently working on an idea that's related to the Refugee Education Challenge? We'd love to hear more about it. The Ideas Phase of this Challenge will begin tomorrow on April 21st. Hope to see you there!

Also, our Community Champion Hassan recently shared his perspective on the difficulty of affording an education beyond refugee camps. You might be interested to check it out here: https://openideo.com/challenge/refugee-education/research/access-to-education-in-kenya
