In Ghana, dropout rates in refugee camps are high because parents cannot afford fees, classrooms are congested with student/class ratio as high as 130:1. There's also the problem of language barriers as most teachers are untrained volunteers. Shortage of instructional materials and poorly constructed school buildings are a disincentive for teachers and students as well.

However these problems which are also faced by many Ghanaian schools, has motivated university students to come up with initiatives like the Adesua Ye literacy program.

Technological solutions like FabLab and Learning with 'Ted in a box' are amazing but given the current energy and telecommunication deficiencies in Ghana, the way forward is to integrate ideas like the SolarBerry, Ikea Refugee shelters and Mass education mov't to create learning spaces and systems that can facilitate the development of skills while creating hope for the future.
