EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

1. Travelling Trainer Refugees will be visited by skilled people from the community (Jordanian or Syrian), who will share their knowledge and experience. Practical learning may also be applied during such trainings. Trainings may also be conducted for facilitators and caregivers on topics such as teaching methods, positive discipline, and any other trainings that could promote behavioral change in children. 2. Child Bus (Age: 6-12) The child bus will be equipped with recreational toys, games, puzzles, books, play-dough, colors, paint and other child-specific art tools. Young children will be welcomed to the bus and monitored as they use the time to play, and carry out crafting activities. 3. Youth Bus (Age: 13-24) The Youth Bus will be equipped with books, desk-top laptos (with internet connections), and tools for science projects. Middle aged children and youth can use these tools on the bus in order to create science projects (such as circuits, volacanoes etc), browse the internet for educational purposes, or just read books on topics of their interest. There will also be focus on teaching this age group basic computer skills, to better equip them for their career endeavors.

WHO BENEFITS?

Beneficiaries will be Syrian Refugees living in Informal Tented Settlements (ITS) in Jordan.

HOW IS THIS IDEA DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOUR ORGANIZATION (OR OTHER ORGANIZATIONS) IS ALREADY DOING?

Save the Children Jordan (SCJ) provides mobile nutrition services to expecting and breastfeeding mothers in Jordan, which inspired our idea. Organizations working in education work out of community based organizations, their own offices, or public schools. Refugees living in remote areas and ITS cannot access these services. SCJ already provides informal education in tents in ITS, but it is difficult to keep up with the nomadic lifestyle the refugees maintain, which is why we believe that providing mobile education services will be a breakthrough in how far we can go in ensuring that every child, youth and adult, receives educational and life skills building services. .

HOW WOULD YOU USE AMPLIFY FUNDING AND DESIGN SUPPORT?

Save the Children Jordan envisions using Amplify’s support in creating a sustainable mobile service for people who otherwise would not be receiving any. Amplify can provide us with service design support to ensure that SCJ develops a strong, sustainable, accessible and quality service. With product support, SCJ will get the professional help needed to design the layout of the three buses which will be used as travelling classrooms/lecture halls, in order to meet the needs of our beneficiaries in terms of seating, boards, cabinets, stationary and other materials we will need.Amplify's extensive experience with rolling out projects will be beneficial to us throughout the implementation.

HOW DOES YOUR IDEA TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CONTEXT OF THE CHALLENGE?

This idea tackles the immediate needs of Syrian refugees who are leading unsettled and uncertain lifestyles, yet offers them with quick solutions. The idea ensures that they receive immediate services wherever they may be, and at their convenience. It also takes into account the fact that they have resource limitations when it comes to education, and limited capacity in government schools. Within the Training bus program issue of social cohesion and integration may be addressed so as to lessen cultural sensitivity. Furthermore, it will be offered fairly to both genders (children and adults), and will also be facilitated by staff of both genders, hence ensuring the comfort of the refugees.

ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS FROM THE AMPLIFY TEAM

The bus will be targeting beneficiaries in areas where education services are scarce/nonexistent. If the child is already receiving education services, the goal of the bus is to offer a more practical and hands on approach to help them with their studies. As for adults, the travelling trainer will provide people living in remote areas opportunities to develop practical skills, learn and be empowered from local mentors and receive training to help them improve their quality of life. We decided on a mobile solution after witnessing many families who do not receive any services/limited services because they are living a nomadic lifestyle, in remote areas. The great thing about this initiative is that the bus would be targeting areas in which education is scarce/not available. The bus would be able to reach these people easily, and move around with them as they move. Having a fixed space is not practical when it comes to this group of beneficiaries. Instead of trying to ask a nomadic community to settle down, our service will become nomadic as well, and move around the country with the beneficiaries as they move from season to season, something not available for Syrian refugees living in Jordan, and has put an already vulnerable community at a greater disadvantage, and this is what makes our idea unique. We already offer informal education in some informal tented settlements in Jordan, which gives us a foot through the door in introducing beneficiaries to this new service.

SKILL SHARE (optional)

We have had a strong partnership with UNICEF in Jordan, carrying out Education projects for more than 6 years. Also strong relations with local government, Ministry of Education, and other organizations. We already have access to this group of vulnerable people through our programs, and use an advanced database system which enables us access to information on beneficiaries.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

Save the Children Jordan is a local NGO established in 1974. Since then, we have impacted the lives of more than 1.5 million Jordanians, Syrians, Iraqis, and other vulnerable nationalities in the country. Our services are provided nationwide, working in humanitarian and development projects.

IS THIS AN IDEA THAT YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION WOULD LIKE TO TAKE FORWARD?

  • Yes, and we are implementing/operating partners of UNICEF or UNHCR.

Great ideas there! I really like it, I've been researching a topic of our education system transformation and mobile learning. I'm a writer here https://essayvikings.com/coursework-writing-service - the company that consults students on education apps and helps them with performing their tasks. And must say that education apps may become also an important thing in mobile learning, that can increase educational success of children.
