EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

This idea was generated during our brainstorming workshop as community champions, fartun,Daniel and vestine with our fellow refugees and organization leaders held in May in Kakuma refugee camp. John is typical of many refugee students who have graduated from secondary schools who want to join colleges&universities through community initiatives and some support from UNHCR and donors for proper E-learning education programs. The idea is to contact outside colleges&universities through UNHCR and donors to build out a curriculum of benefiting future students to make easy their education journey. Through the support of the community and UNHCR&Donors they will pursue their education skills. . John will then be able to have his own career of education programs which will be successfully time for him and his community.

WHO BENEFITS?

Someone like John who live in Kakuma, Kenya who is a teacher and as well has got computer skills and a secondary graduate who has no access of universities&colleges outside of the camp would benefit attending these meeting between the community and donors including UNHCR.

PROTOTYPE

To test out in a lower cost you could: 1) participate community meetings organised by UNHCR and donors to advocate fore more learning opportunities. 2) through fund raising from the refugee community specially with business people. 3) introducing livelihood programs in the camps. This way you could test whether access to E-learning education programs in distance is the way of achieving some Goals.

SKILL SHARE (optional)

Since I will benefit these through the community initiative by fund raising and with the help of UNHCR and donors can lead many students join colleges and universities.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF

I am a community champion who have been working with the OpenIDEO and live in Kakuma to help them generate their ideas and stories for development.

IS THIS AN IDEA THAT YOU OR YOUR ORGANIZATION WOULD LIKE TO TAKE FORWARD?

  • This idea is meant to inspire - I hope someone else takes it on.
