Graphic Guidance on what things you should put in certain cans
So the garbage cans would have a photograph that would simulate that the interior of the trash can is visible and show what should be in it. So if it is the can where paper goes the picture would show all kinds of paper waste.
This eliminates the need to think where goes what, you just know.
Explain your idea in one sentence
The idea is to graphically show what should be inside of a certain trash-can
It requires a group of three trash cans or a big subdivided can.
It's a very rough sketch, but I think it communicates the idea
It has a photograaph of what type of waste should be in it, so it is almost effortles and automatic for anyone to throw everything into place.
Any observation is welcome
Describe how your idea would help form new habits and improve recycling at home
Most of the times I don't recycle the way I should because it requires a lot more focus on what I'm doing than it takes to just throw something away without caring.
So with this alternative the idea is to make the process of recycling a to more natural, this trash saves your mind a lot of work (In which category belongs what I am about to throw away? Which can is the one for this type of waste? Are you sure this is the one? - All question that we might not notice but they make the act of throwing away something really more complicated than it should)
Just as if you were not recycling, you just have to throw your stuff away.
How might you design an early, lightweight experiment to further develop your idea?
Use a few families (whit children of varying ages) who aren't particularly strict about recycling and send them early (but good quality) prototypes and observe at the end of each week how organized is everything on the trash bags (maybe use color coded plastic bags to facilitate this process and not go into someones house and see into their trash cans).
What aspects of your idea could benefit from the input of our OpenIDEO community?
You can think it is the most smart or stupid idea in the world... and it's ok!
Anything you say will help this product to evolve.
So, what do you think?
