Lightweight synthetic materials could be sewn together into sails for a boat. Most sails are made of nylon which is similar to the scrap material from Nike clothing. Sometimes a hole rips in a sail creating the beed for a patch or an entirely new sail. Using the scraps from Nike jackets would create a lightweight rain proof sail that would help the environment. Also leather scraps could be weaved together to create lashings for the sails. These recycled sails along with leather ties would be a great way to reduce waste created from producing clothing and shoes.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Mixed Apparel Textile
  • Mixed Footwear Textile
  • Full Grain Leather Scraps
  • Split Leather Scraps Coated
  • Synthetic Leather

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

Textiles would be sewn together to create sail patches and even large sails. Leather scraps could be cut and woven together to create a kind of rope that could tie the sail to the mast of the boat.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

I believe that advertising to people at sail boat events would be most effective. These sailors enjoy being close to the environment and are likely to try out recycled sails.

How is your idea innovative?

Recycling materials in a way that will benefit the environment.

What inspired this idea?

If clothes are made by sewing toget her prices of fabric, you could use the scraps to create a giant blanket or sail.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?
