Nike is a company that has a wide appeal to athletes all around the world who push their body to the limit day to day. Our idea will provide a way for all athletes and every day individuals to be able to recover after a workout to prevent injury and allow for performance in the long-run.

Our recovery set is split into two very easy to create products that will aid in recovery:

1) The Recovery Roller

The foam roller will be built using the old materials and utilize rubber and foam with a ribbed design to target tight points in athletes muscles.

2) The Recovery Ball

For muscles that cannot be loosened up by the roller a lacrosse ball made of rubber material will be created to get into tighter muscles.

Company / Organization Name (if applicable)

Polytechnic Recovery Systems

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Outsoles
  • Rubber Flashings
  • Rubber Granulate
  • EVA Foam Injection Scraps
  • EVA Foam Flashings
  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks
  • EVA Foam Components
  • Laminated EVA Foam
  • Laminated PU Foam

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

We plan on using the rubber pieces to create a core that would serve as the very hard part of the foam roller. We would then take the scraps of the foam and layer them on the top to serve as the foam part of the foam roller. The ball would be even simpler and only use the rubber material to make a spherical shape that can be used as a lacrosse ball to roll out.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing
  • Prototyping

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

Our target market could be any person who works out on a daily basis and has sore muscles who wants to increase recovery speed and increase performance.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

Nike can advertise the product to individuals as well as mass sell the product to gyms across the nation and across the world. Obstacles we can foresee are making this product more appealing than current recovery products and getting people to purchase these instead of what they currently have.

How is your idea innovative?

The idea is using recycled materials to create a product that is currently being created from non-recycled materials. The shape and mass production of these products would be very simple and could be easily made.

What inspired this idea?

The idea was inspired by our love for workout equipment and the fact that Nike is a brand that already caters to athletes.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

We are all Mechanical Engineering Students at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo.

In what city are you located?

In what country are you located?

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

Becoming a top idea would support growth of our concept by spreading the idea of reusable materials. When people see that an every day item that is very useful like both of these it can continue to grow.

I like the idea, good reuse of materials to make secondary products.
