Introducing: Just circle it - NIKE KUU

Our solution is twofold and combines useful products for a great music festival experience with an easy and simple to use leasing service.

Like many NIKE products our first product prototype, which is planned to be succeeded by further great products, combines the best features of many NIKE (waste) materials at the same time. A waterproof material combination used for the outer shell together with light, net material on the inside will ensure the best user experience on a warm or rainy festival day. The static material needed for the infrastructure of the tent is either produced by warm pressing and galvanizing rubber granulate into a complex 2D form, or if harder plastic granulate is available from NIKE production or from a collaboration, a filament for 3D printing can be produced. By using 3D printing technique for the static infrastructure, even less material would be used for production.

Hence, the whole tent can be produced of NIKE waste materials. But, the product side isn’t the only one that shines bright:

The KUU tent is embedded in a simple, easy to use Product Service System (PSS). Prior to a festival, the visitors make a reservation for their preferred tent online. The annoying carriage of tents to a festival site is not necessary anymore, as festival visitors can rent the tent and pay a deposit for its use at the NIKE stand on the festival site. The tent can be easily assembled by the festival visitor on the festival by clicking the 4 pillars into the base with the help of a simple click-and-go mechanism. For a small extra fee, the NIKE festival crew even builds up tents on preselected spots before the festival goers arrive so they would have even less to worry about.

No more annoying carrying, assembly and disassembly, no more wet or cheaply built tents:

With NIKE KUU everyone raved happily ever after!

NIKE KUU is the first product offered in the music festival leasing system called Just circle it!

In the future we envision the leasing service to extend to other products, for example:

- Cushions

- Blankets

- Transport boxes

- Safety ropes

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Outsoles
  • Rubber Flashings
  • Rubber Granulate
  • Laminated EVA Foam

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

PART 1: BASE LAYER Base Layer Material resistant against Glass or Stones °_ resistant against wetness of the ground. °_ fluffy and soft but also durable material. °_ sewn together with left materials of the production process. Materials used: - Rubber Granulated - Laminated EVA Foam PART 2: STATIC STRUCTURE Static structure built out of either rubber or plastic. Gives the tent its static structure. Easy force flow from top to bottom. The structure is simply put into the counterpart on the base layer. Materials used: - Rubber Granulated - Rubber granulated processed PART 2: STATIC STRUCTURE MAT2 v1 RUBBER 2D structure Molded rubber into form Grid, Voronoi or diamond. MAT2 v2 PLASTIC 3D complex structure 3D Printed Plastic Granulate processed as filament for 3D Printing. Complex structure : - more stable - less flexible than rubber material PART 3: FABRIC LAYER Room building Material as border to the outside. Fabric mesh as first outer layer against insects or anything else. Breathable fabric that allows the airflow. Not against the weather, but encloses the user from the outside PART 4 OUTER LAYER Outer Layer as resistant layer to the outside. Hence the polyurethane coated synthetic leather straps (water resistant/waterproof material) is best used for this layer. Second outer layer over the fabric mesh. Together with the base layer encloses the tent completely. On the current concept, we believe we can use 100% Grind Material to build this product, However further R&D needs to be made in order to make sure the durability of tent main structure. Otherwise, other add-ons materials are possibly needed in the future.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

Our main target indeed the music festival goers.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

NIKE KUU is the first product offered in the music festival leasing system called Just Circle IT! In the future we envision the leasing service to extend to other products, for example: - Cushions - Blankets - Transport boxes - Safety ropes And possibly to other events: Sports event

How is your idea innovative?

Product: Innovative design Recycled tent materials Less material used (e.g. in static structure) Service: User friendly Product Service System (PSS) New user avenues: music festivals as partners and music lovers as clients Production: Use of recycled Nike materials in tent product Possibility to produce innovatively using 3D-printing if rubber granulate is mixed with harder plastic material (See Slides images for details)

What inspired this idea?

We got this idea after did understanding and first ideation round on the workshop. We realized that we shared tons of love for music (3 of us are actually musicians), and see it as daily product. Later on that workshop we specified our focus on improving music festival experiences.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

love the idea of renting out tents at festivals! Every festival season I have the same tent-worries! Just recicle it, lol :) + kuu sounds really weather resistant, which is so important!

Woohoo! Berlin represent! Really love the detail and thoroughness you guys put into this idea after the workshop we had together. Amazing! It's much more fleshed out and focused - and the design of the tent looks dope. Such a fun idea from a fun group of people. Great job, guys! Looking forward to seeing more!
