Work has changed. offices haven't.

Two-thirds of the workforce is disengaged making workplaces stress to rise, afflicting eight out of 10 employees. While only 4% of offices in North America have a dynamic work environment 65% of workers want a reconfigurable workspace. - APQC 2017.

Hex brings humanity back to the workplace by offering a modular office system that is made of premium up-cycled materials enabling a flexible and customizable workspace. Employees can create their own personal dynamic work environment to foster more connection and collaboration, or personal quiet space to maximize productivity.

A living office system for greater connection, creativity, and productivity.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Outsoles
  • Rubber Flashings
  • Rubber Granulate
  • EVA Foam Injection Scraps
  • EVA Foam Flashings
  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks
  • EVA Foam Components
  • Laminated EVA Foam
  • Laminated PU Foam

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

Hex consists of Grind Rubber on the Exterior body for ease of stacking and building, and impact absorption for durability. The interior is composed of Grind Foam which acts as a natural sound barrier to eliminate sound in an open office.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

The U.S. Office Furniture market was valued at 10.74 billion in 2016 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.2% from 2017 to 2025. Modular systems emerged as the largest solution segment in 2016 and is estimated to generate revenue over 3.88 billion US by 2025. Nike Hex takes advantage of this ongoing trend and focuses on a work-space aesthetic, and demand for a customized, collaborative workspace.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

PHASE 1: CONCEPT DESIRABILITY VALIDATION - Bring sketch prototype and test it with 1-2 vendors for concept validation. (e.g. do workplace employees desire this concept) - Listen to their feedback, understand their current painpoints in the workplace and iterate on the concept. PHASE 2: TEST FULL-SCALE PROTOTYPE - Find a build partner and explore building technique and methodologies. - Explore manufacturing capabilities and scaling for mass production. PHASE 3: PARTNER PILOT TEST - Build a full-scale prototype and test it with a select participating partners. (e.g. take Hex to Facebook, Airbnb, WeWork campus and see if employees would use it, gather feedback and iterate.) - Conduct research over 2 month period with employees. Observational research, conduct intercepts and qualitative interviews with vendor employees and gather feedback to further iterate and refine concept. PHASE 4: FEASIBILITY / VIABILITY PLAN - Build an economic model to scale business

What inspired this idea?

The simplicity of the beehive architecture and how a simple shape, a hexagonal honeycomb can be stacked, transformed into a complex three-dimentional construction.

Hi Joshua,

Great to hear from you! Could you please provide more content for the submission question, "How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?" How might you begin to turn the raw Nike Grind materials into your final product? What might that process look like step-by-step?

Additionally, I did want to ensure you were aware that the goal of this challenge is not to source concepts that Nike would bring to market under their own brand. Rather, the goal of this Challenge is to support innovators in creating their own products and ventures using Nike Grind materials, but independent of Nike, with the potential for partnership.

With the deadline fast-approaching at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, please ensure all of your final updates are completed by then.

Excited to learn more!
