Mop Drop proposes to use Nike Grind materials to create cleaning equipment (e.g. mops) that can be produced and used in the same country in order to create employment and affordable products.

The products can be sold to households and businesses.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks
  • Mixed Apparel Textile
  • Mixed Footwear Textile
  • Full Grain Leather Scraps

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

Mixed textile used to create the replaceable mop head, and full grain leather scraps used to create a comfortable, long lasting handle.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing
  • Prototyping

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

- Stable jobs created in-country to make the products. - Less well-off consumers who may appreciate lower-cost products. - Environmentally conscious consumers who already use eco cleaning chemicals and see cleaning equipment as wasteful (e.g. like cotton buds and straws).

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

1. Train workers to make the products. 2. Advertise and take to market. - Sell in developing countries (needs to be researched) - Online sales. - Identify high-volume customers (e.g. cleaning companies, supermarkets). - Partner with eco cleaning product companies.

How is your idea innovative?

Mops and cleaning equipment are everyday products that are often used a few times then thrown away. While our product doesn't remove that final step, it does use materials that are otherwise scraps and waste thereby reducing the need for more materials to be created. Recyclable kitchen and toilet paper and eco cleaning chemicals have proven to be popular and this idea builds on that market. The business model will also generate sustainable manufacturing jobs.

What inspired this idea?

Workshop session looking at the scraps of material and considering how they could be used. The long thin sections of textile reminded us of a mop.
