Traditionally business and party shirts are made of the same material and the focus lies on cut and material quality. Functional qualities such as transport of sweat or odour-free are the domain of sport apparel.

This product seeks to change this by incorporating functionality into everyday business and partywear by using materials used in performance sports industries.

The Comfort Spline Shirt is a shirt which uses Mixed Apparel Textile leftovers to create business and partyshirts with useful functional features. Since the back is the region which sweats the most and has max. contact with a shirt,  the T-Spline would soak up and transport sweat to the environment fast and effectively. This would keep the wearer dry and feeling comfortable.

In order to make the shirt appear aesthetic the colour of the T-Spline should speak the style language the shirt has. Else, it would not be accepeted by customers.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Mixed Apparel Textile
  • Mixed Footwear Textile

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

The chosen materials would be used in virgin state as far as possible and using techniques such as ultrasonics or lasers be fused with the main material of the shirt. This in most cases would be cotton or a cotton mix. This does not foresee any special processing of the Nike Grind material. The Nike Grind material would not be blended with the main material of the shirt. Instead it would be cut in the required shape and fused with the main material. Depending on the state of the material, it might need to be cleaned to get rid of dirt, etc. or may me not. Production facalities for such a process can be found in most European countries as also in some Asian countrries where high-value goods in the apparel sector are produced.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

The target group is one comprising people who wish to remain sweat-free and dry in their officewear or party shirts, esp. when physically active, e.g. riding a bicycle, or in warm tropical climates, e.g. South Asia. They place emphasis on their daily comfort and feeling fresh. As such they are willing to try out newer products which do the job better. The market is theoretically worldwide, but Europe and Asia/Asia-Pacific would offer a good potential.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

The plan is to work together with manufacturers and license the developed concept and production technique to them. By starting with a few shirt brands, it would be extended to other manufacturers or newer markets. The approach would be to first identify key markets where the value propositions of this product are highly valued by customers. For these markets, appropriate brands and manufacturers would be identified. The manufacturers need not be based in the same market, but that would help. Upon identifying markets, brands, and manufacturers, initially select groups would be targeted. Thereafter, the move would be made from shirts, to other forms of clothing. E.g. women‘s blouses in India. The scaling would occur through rapid integration of new market segments and adaption of the technique and design for usual pieces of clothing. As for marketing, depening on the market, different communication channels would be used. There is currently no plan to establish an own brand.

How is your idea innovative?

The idea addresses not just a specific problem, but combines tech. from another sector (sport) to create a solution for a very different sector. The innovation lies in using waste from the sport sector for a completely new solution elsewhere.

What inspired this idea?

My own experiences in formal and party wear, esp. in warm, humid conditions or while riding a bicycle. The idea was in my mind for a long time. But the contest offered me the right opportunity to present it.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

I am an engineer and ny focus lies on innovation and techniques. I love to create new ideas, create new concepts and designs, and experiment al the time.

In what city are you located?

In what country are you located?

What is your legal / organizational structure? (if applicable)

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

Being a top idea would mean a lot. It would then be possible to work on prototyping and refining the concept as also scout for manufacturers and technologies which would make this possible. That aside, it would be an incentive to work on a business plan to generate revenues with it.
