Producing a duffel and backpack style bag that would be composed of rubber. It would allow for ease of cleaning when transporting dirty sports equipment (cleats, shoes, helmets, etc) as well as durability knowing that fabric would not tear when handled roughly.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Outsoles
  • Rubber Flashings
  • Rubber Granulate
  • EVA Foam Injection Scraps
  • EVA Foam Flashings
  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks
  • EVA Foam Components
  • Laminated EVA Foam
  • Laminated PU Foam
  • Footwear Fiber "Fluff"

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

A combination of materials would be used in order to complete the end product. - Rubber would be the primary material, as this would be melted down and molded, replacing the polyester materials in current bags - Foam could be melted and hardened for the zippers, clips, and fasteners - Fiber "Fluff" could be used in the shoulder padding and side of bag when used in backpack-style - From the waste of producing this product (excess rubber, foams, etc), it could be put back in to the product to be used again

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

This bag is currently being made from polyester, but would be the same layout and style composed of the Nike Grind materials.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

People who frequent gyms and participate in sporting events would be able to use a rugged bag for carrying heavier and damaging items such as cleats, shoes, pads, and various gear.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

From presenting the idea to the right people, to full-scale production, new products are constantly being made and put to the market.

How is your idea innovative?

While there are certainly many duffel bags on the market, this idea would be utilizing recycled materials. The lifespan of products on the market are lower than they should be, and the materials in Nike Grind could be combined in a way to make something more study than polyester fabrics. I would rather pay twice the amount for a product that I know would easily last three times as long. It could be difficult however to market such a product to every target.

What inspired this idea?

Gym bags I have used break and wear out considerably quicker than I believe they should. I have seen fabrics wear out, rip, and fail when equipment is thrown in and punctures through.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

Environmentalist looking to be involved in an impacting way to further responsible use of resources.

In what city are you located?

Boston

In what country are you located?

USA

What is your legal / organizational structure? (if applicable)

N/A

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

There are many great ideas that are being proposed for this challenge. By getting this idea out there and minds spinning, it would at least raise the awareness of the lifespan of current products.

Hi, love your concept and the fact you can recycle so many parts. Do you mechanically recycle only or do you use a chemical process as well?
Would love to share with you on the technical solution. I think you could use rectcled polyester and agro waste to perfect your product. If i can be any use, do not hesitate.
