A research that serves as a library of materials in a never-ending process. A base from where new products can be developed.

To develop a material that is seen as waste to a new material with its own identity and quality, need research. Research with material and industrial machines to experiment with the possibilities of the material. In the last 1.5 years I have researched the recycling of plastic bottles. The results is a library of colors and materials as a never ending process to develop new esthetic products made out of waste.
When I read about this open ideo challenge I would also love to start a research with the waste material from Nike. I do not yet have any concrete ideas as an outcome that I can present. But with my previous project I hope to convince you of the talent to recycle waste into new esthetics usable materials from which products can grow again. I am someone who works very process-oriented, the process is equally as important as the results.

Normally I work together with different disciplines in which ideas are united and knowledge and  talent can be developed to reshape society to a circular economy.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Outsoles
  • Rubber Flashings
  • Rubber Granulate
  • EVA Foam Injection Scraps
  • EVA Foam Flashings
  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks
  • EVA Foam Components
  • Laminated EVA Foam
  • Laminated PU Foam
  • Mixed Apparel Textile
  • Mixed Footwear Textile
  • Footwear Fiber "Fluff"
  • Full Grain Leather Scraps
  • Split Leather Scraps Coated
  • Synthetic Leather

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

my streve is to recycle the material 100% to a new material and to add an agent only if it is really necessary for the quality of the material. See previous criteria for working with materials and solutions

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

A ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’, a collaboration between different disciplines in which ideas are united and knowledge and talent can be developed to reshape society to a circular economy. Designers can't live without the industry and the industry can't development without designers. The materiallibrary will be a connection between the industry and designers to develop products. Products that can be used by the buyer. The buyer is someone who loves aesthetics and thinks circularly

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

The waste material from Nike is a new material for me. With a completely blank face I will investigate this material. I see this as a challenge, knowledge about the material can be found through professionals and solutions can be created by experimenting with the material and industrial machines. In some cases it is necessary to add a human action such as a craft to be able to think again from an industrial perspective. In order to be able to develop the material, a certain amount is needed with which research can be done to process with color, material and technique. These are my guiding principles to come up with new materials that offer the possibility to design aesthetically. 1.5 years ago I was completely blank for the material (recycled) plastic. By exploring and experimenting, new perspectives can be created.

How is your idea innovative?

In order to minimize the use of new raw materials, we must start thinking differently about how materials are produced, treated, discarded and recycled. By systematically experimenting and documenting, there are continual attributes with which existing materials can become aesthetic products again. In order to give the material and the products their own identity, production processes will be developed and the boundary between industry and craft will be questioned and rediscovered.

What inspired this idea?

The preference to work with materials and the absence of aesthetics in its recycling.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

Jessica den Hartog (25), a Dutch designer. I doing research and studying the behavior of associations. To take care of the development of activities from people in such a way that a balance is present between functionality and aesthetics.

In what city are you located?

Maastricht

In what country are you located?

The Netherlands

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.
