Sport has the power to provide a universal framework for teaching values. The skills that are taught through sport are the same tools that you use in the real world. This game allows athletes to understand and have empathy for others.

Competititon and cooperation are often depicted as opposing process, even though they are complemetary. In this new sport individuals must cooperate in order to compete effectively. The rules are based on cooperative learning method and game theory and maximise the benefits of competitive and cooperative behavior.

Test games have been running since January to specify the rules and the equickment.

Rules in a nutshell

The objective of the paddle and ball game, as with most sports, is to be the one who has gained the most points by the end of the match.

6 players are competing individually but the matches are played between two opposing temporary teams of 3 players.

There are four positions: Launcher, Bridge, Scorer, and Blocker. One of the teams has 1 Launcher, 1 Bridge and 1 Scorer. The other team has 3 Blockers.

The Launcher throws the ball to the Bridge, who forwards it to the Scorer without falling the ball. If they succeed only the Scorer gets the point but they swap roles. The Launcher becomes the Bridge, the Bridge becomes the Scorer and the Scorer becomes the Launcher. This is why the individual players are motivated to be cooperative with the team members.

The opposing team has 3 Blockers and they are trying to sabotage the process. The Blocker who gets the ball swaps role with the player who made the mistake.

The team members keep changing and this way all of the players are competing and also cooperating with each other. To make the current position of the players visible clear the paddles are transformable by rotating it or pushing the handle to the other side.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Granulate
  • EVA Foam Sheets & Blocks

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

All elements of the equickment are made of Nike Grind material. Rubber granulate is used to the flat paddle. The handle and the ball are made of EVA foam block.
Communicating the importance of sustainability with the used material fits the educational nature of the game.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

To make the current position of the players visible clear the paddles are transformable by pushing the handle to the other side.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Prototyping

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

After refine the prototype I would like to run a crowdfunding campaign to cover the expenditures of the manufacturing.
Altough the design itself is not very complex but a lot of experimentation needed with the material to get the final shape and have a durable, good quality product.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

I used to work for a creative agency, and as a freelance designer. At the moment, I work for Koino, a company that I co-founded.
I am finishing my studies at product design this year.

In what city are you located?

Budapest

In what country are you located?

Hungary

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

The opportunity to experiment with sample material would allow me to refine the prototype, get to know the characteristic and limits of Nike Grind.
We could continue the test games focusing on the object detailes with the specific material.
Also by receiving suggestion I could develop the idea and the design.

Hi Kriszti ,

Great to see you in the Challenge! Could you please provide more content for the submission question, "How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?" How might you begin to turn the raw Nike Grind materials into your final product? What might that process look like step-by-step? How might you begin the prototyping process?

With the deadline fast-approaching at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, please ensure all of your final updates are completed by then.

Excited to learn more!
