Sport has the power to provide a universal framework for teaching values. The skills that are taught through sport are the same tools that you use in the real world. This game allows athletes to understand and have empathy for others.
Competititon and cooperation are often depicted as opposing process, even though they are complemetary. In this new sport individuals must cooperate in order to compete effectively. The rules are based on cooperative learning method and game theory and maximise the benefits of competitive and cooperative behavior.
Test games have been running since January to specify the rules and the equickment.
Rules in a nutshell
The objective of the paddle and ball game, as with most sports, is to be the one who has gained the most points by the end of the match.
6 players are competing individually but the matches are played between two opposing temporary teams of 3 players.
There are four positions: Launcher, Bridge, Scorer, and Blocker. One of the teams has 1 Launcher, 1 Bridge and 1 Scorer. The other team has 3 Blockers.
The Launcher throws the ball to the Bridge, who forwards it to the Scorer without falling the ball. If they succeed only the Scorer gets the point but they swap roles. The Launcher becomes the Bridge, the Bridge becomes the Scorer and the Scorer becomes the Launcher. This is why the individual players are motivated to be cooperative with the team members.
The opposing team has 3 Blockers and they are trying to sabotage the process. The Blocker who gets the ball swaps role with the player who made the mistake.
The team members keep changing and this way all of the players are competing and also cooperating with each other. To make the current position of the players visible clear the paddles are transformable by rotating it or pushing the handle to the other side.
