Our goal is to create products that not only minimize material waste but also help further wider systemic changes that go hand-in-hand with the circular economy’s vision of a sustainable future. Our idea focuses on urban design elements such as bike lane delineators & curb extensions that support the shift to bike and pedestrian centered cities. Through these products we are reducing emissions, enhancing public safety and encouraging healthier lifestyles.

Which Nike Grind materials will your idea utilize?

  • Rubber Granulate

How specifically will these materials be incorporated into your solution?

Rubber has great shock absorbing properties which is why we’ve chosen it as our main material. One of our main challenges during the prototyping process was figuring out which binder was best for both function and circularity.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

Our target markets are city governments, urban designers and planners. This product will directly benefit communities, cyclists and pedestrians and will have long term benefits for the environment.

How will you scale your idea? Please describe in detail your plan to scale your concept.

Business Model Canvas in the works!

How is your idea innovative?

Our idea pushes beyond the materiality of the products and also considers the product’s role in influencing human behavior towards more sustainable lifestyles. In order to transition to a circular economy we have to think about the bigger picture, the system as a whole. By implementing these types of products across cities we are not just diverting material from the landfill, we are contributing to the deeper cultural change that is needed for the circular economy to thrive.

What inspired this idea?

In hopes of designing products with longer lifespans and greater impact, we looked towards cities and public spaces. As more people continue to move into cities, we understand that the urban ecosystem plays an important role in the transition to a circular economy.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

Our team is made up of five industrial designers and a materials engineer that got together through our mutual interests in sustainability.

In what city are you located?

Brooklyn, NY

In what country are you located?

USA

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

By becoming a top idea we would be able to continue our R&D process, test the products, and hopefully start a pilot program by partnering with a city government.
