Idea Title

Sea foods

Idea Summary

I bring an exciting and new idea to possibly solving or help reduce, substantially, a rising global issue.

Starch-based polymers have been gaining notoriety recently due to its source.  There are however some major issues with this idea. But, by breaking down some seaweed, it can have plastic properties. This in combination with starch-based polymers can likely be the next renewable source.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • All of the Above
  • Some of the Above

How is your concept recoverable?

Starch-based polymers such as found in food waste is readily available. Seaweed is also available not only in nature but it is also farmed. Neither one of these products use materials that will hinder the environment but will help it if thrown.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

A portion of my idea is based on a byproduct of food. This in itself is ethically sourced.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

Target regions will vary based on delivery of big chain companies. I believe its crucial to be readily accessible to these companies to make such a transition an easy one.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

Target market will be big chain suppliers. Such as fast food suppliers, grocery stores, shipping suppliers. Any company that can transition from current plastic products to this new sustainable product. This can range from cups from fast food chains, to disposable utensils from a grocery store. The possibilities are endless.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

Biggest challenge I face is financial backing to proceed with testing. Seaweed has great plastic properties however I would need money to be able to combine the two to make the product I believe it can be.

Mentorship Needs (please select up to 3)

  • Materials and Technical Development
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Fundraising / Finance

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

I am currently and have been a Registered Sleep Technologist for approximately 12 years. I however thrive in product ideas. I am currently in the process of getting a sleep device off the ground to replace PAP therapy. There are many more ideas.

In what city are you located?

Las Cruces

In what country are you located?

What is your legal / organizational structure? (if applicable)

Sole proprietor

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

Research and information has already been done on both materials I am working with. This being said, growth and completion of this idea will skyrocket if this idea becomes a top idea.

How did you hear about the Challenge?

  • In the news
