Utilizing a vacuum system much like you see at a drive up bank, we plan to create a reusable cup cleaning and delivery system for drive-up and in store deliver to encourage reuse of tbd Starbucks "Approved" cups. These cups will have a chip that stores information about the owner of the cup as well as the current order and cost. Basically a customer will place the cup into the system, the system will determine based on the chip whether or not the cup is "legal" then it will zip the cup through the system to be disinfected, the drink will be dispensed, auto-charged, then delivered to the customer. The system itself will be extremely efficient and fast and fun in that noises and visuals will be created to make it an enjoyable experience. Of course the Starbucks discount will be applied as well!

How is your concept recoverable?

This system makes reuse more attractive and fun thus reducing the need for a disposable cup.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Solution should leverage alternative energy sources where possible as well as be self-sustaining. One idea is to make the outside input bay solar-powered with a battery bank and to make the disinfecting system as water free as possible. For example, the use of UV light to clean the cup should be an effective disinfection method once the cup has been rinsed. In addition, this system can be automated reducing the space and maintenance requirements for buildings.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

Regions to start with would be urban areas where space is limited and landfills are swelling but we have not specifically targeted a region as yet.

Users who like to recycle/reuse as well as maintain Starbucks cards

We are a company of 2 with limited resources. We have consulted with local inventors who believe much of the technology exists already to begin creating this system but we do not have the resources to even prototype the system.

Honestly we cannot even get to Step 1 without support. We believe this is an awesome idea but it is very big in scope!

Hi Janna Jacobson , you're making dishwashing easier and I love it, great contribution! So the cafes would no longer need to do their own dishes? I think this would be a very appealing concept to a lot of cafes and being a great step in facilitating reusables. Can't wait to see how this concept develops further!

Thank you Daniel! For sure the system will take care of the reusable cups so shops can focus on other things. I know that one of the hindrances for me in always brining and using my reusable cup is the fact that it is often not very clean. :/ Thanks for your feedback!
