Citrus cup

Due to the pollution of the planet with plastics and plastics there are natural and environmental problems. The negative impact extends to human health, animals, the earth's surface, oceans, seas and rivers. But the world without disposable cups in the 21st century is impossible to imagine. Is there an alternative to current products?

 My vision is to make this world a cleaner place and minimize the risk to human health. So I developed a biodegradable Cup that has a completely natural composition. The main component is the citrus peel, which is often discarded by juice producers, catering companies or ordinary consumers. In my idea, I decided to find a useful application of the peel in several directions - for the manufacture of a disposable Cup, as well as for further fertilizer and environmental benefits during decomposition.

How it works: the citrus peel Cup is very simple. First you need to grind the orange peel. Then mix the resulting powder with water and starch, which is food glue. When the resulting mass is converted into a General consistency, pour it into the shape of a future Cup, after which the Cup will dry and harden. Due to its texture and shape, which also promotes rapid decomposition, the Cup is associated with orange or grapefruit, thereby attracting consumer interest.
To ensure that the Cup does not pass water and is heat - resistant, treat it with biolac paint for wood, created on the basis of natural ingredients-linseed oil, beeswax and rosin.

the Product is safe to use, as only natural ingredients are used in the composition of the Cup. The product is safe for food, keeps humidity and different temperature. The Cup is able to withstand both cold and hot temperatures, without releasing harmful substances in interaction with drinks of different temperatures and keeping the shape. The Cup and tube are also made of the above components and are biodegradable.

Production information: The advantage of this Cup is also that it can be produced even at home, as the right ingredients are in stores or on the streets. All components are easily mined and inexpensive, which also simplifies their production. This type of cups is easy to enter into mass production and use in catering establishments.

How is your concept recoverable?

Citrus cup is a decision that does not require any additional infrastructure for its disposal and can be disposed of in any standard municipal waste. In addition, since the materials are biodegradable, Citrus cup can decompose if released into the environment. But the cup has a number of advantages that will not just throw it away. It is not necessary to dispose of the beaker after use. Orange peel contains more ACE vitamins than its pulp, is rich in essential oils, flavonoids (plant pigments) and pectin substances. It contains a lot of potassium and phosphorus, which are vital for plants, as well as sodium, which is involved in cell metabolism and increases the winter hardiness of plants.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

This decision is intended for use on a global scale. One bonus of the material made from citrus is that these materials can be obtained from anywhere. This means that the cost and contamination from transporting the material can be minimized or completely eliminated.

The target market for Citrus cup is ordinary coffee drinkers who prefer a disposable product to a reusable one. As well as those who are interested in the future of the Cup and its benefits for the environment.

My name is Anastasia Dergaeva. I am a student of St. Petersburg Stieglitz Academy. I am a 3rd year student of the Department of industrial design. Before entering the Academy, I graduated from the art Lyceum with a degree in Painting.
