Idea Title

BYOC Promotion

Idea Summary

Offer a free drink on a particular day if customers bring their own cup.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

The best way to reduce the waste generated by to-go cups is to not use to-go cups. Many businesses have discounts for bringing your own cup but they aren't strongly advertised and a lot of consumers aren't motivated enough to do so.

We think that if companies offer a free drink if you bring your own cup on a certain day, it could be used as a good promotion tactic and can train people to start bringing their own cups.

A lot of waste can be avoided if people change their consumption habits. However habits are hard to change and trying to get everyone to stop using to-go cups is incredibly hard. Hence, we believe in using baby steps. By having these BYOC (bring your own cup) promotions, consumers can be slowly influenced into reflecting on the waste they generate and changing their habits.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • All of the Above

How is your concept recoverable?

By not using to-go cups, the problem is eliminated.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Reduce to-go cups to reduce waste.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

This idea is in the development phrase and I hope to move forward with the idea.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

The target market would probably be students as they are the ones who are always trying to get free stuff.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

The biggest challenge would be getting a company to try this promotion and to access existing data about the subject.

Mentorship Needs (please select up to 3)

  • Business Model Development
  • Branding / Marketing and Storytelling
  • Legal

Hi Angie Gan ! We have a similar idea! #BYOC (Bring Your Own Cup)
There is already a campaign out there that's #BYOC (but it's just people bringing their own cups for now) but it needs more participation from people! We totally agree that if there are incentives, people would join the #BYOC movement!

People I've talked to prefer the convenience of a disposable cup. :( Maybe with incentives, they'd participate more!
