Aluminium laminated fiber(paper) cup. Inner part is Aluminium foil instead of PE plastic film. Aluminium can attach to paper by water-soluble adhesive.

I tested it with various adhesives. Water-soluble adhesive makes easy resource recovery when we put cups into water.

Resource recovery is easily achieved by using water-soluble adhesive

 Futhermore this cup gives people a perfect food safe, by protecting plastic carcinogen and environmental hormone. This problem is human's long time anticipation to solve. 

Because of this sample cup is orginally designed on human health. It used plastic adhesive. But resource recovery cup is also possible by changing adhesives as water-soluble one.

1. Human's health safe

This cup protect carcinogen and environmental hormone from harmful PE plastic. Healthy safe cup without environmental hormone is human's long anticipation. Now dream came true. Plastic heat resistant temperature is normally 50℃ ~ 80℃.  

But plastic ingrediants is eluted to water even at room temperature. At high temperature much amount of harmful chemicals permeate to water.

An example is PP which is known to be relatively safe with PE, but Canada Alberta university Holt proffesior found that water eluted PP ingrediants in room temperature reacts as environmental hormone at tiny very low ppt(not ppm) concentration. It is published by 'SCIENCE" (McDonald, RG.; Andrew Holt1, et al. (2008). "Bioactive Contaminants Leach from Disposable Laboratory Plasticware". Science 07 Nov2008 : Vol.322, Issue5903, pp.917, DOI : 0.1126/science.1162395)

And SOUTH KOREA govenment file indicate PE  is carcinogon. I describe the contents in this submission.

PS is already known to carcinogen which is early known to environmental hormone. Now U.S.A. govenment designated it carcinogen.

 I investigated newly developed environmental friendly material PLA which originated mainly corn. But it contains much amount various chemicals in it.

 I think we all person must distinguish healthy friendly from environmental friendly. It is different.

 Aluminium mp. is 660℃. Aluminium is very safe meterial that non-soluble in water(hot water) or oil. 

In normal condition Aluminium surface is covered with oxidized Aluminium.

This reaction formula is   4Al + 3O2 → 2Al2O3 

This oxidized Aluminium protect Aluminium perfectly at PH4∼PH9.

I tested the PH of coffee to investigate this cup's safe at coffee environment.

The result is PH7.   It is exactly neutral.  So no problem exist.

2. Reuse

People may voluntarily reuse this cup. Because it is good to see, clean, health safe, metal glossy beautiful, precious, light weight to carry, easy wash, strong etc. 

3. Resource recovery

Most of paper and Aluminium is easily recovered when using water-soluble adhesive. 

When we put this cup into water, then the adhesive solves with water, so paper and aluminium recovered easily.

All countries in the world, it is very easy to recover raw materials by this reason.

4. Environment safe, health safe

Water soluble adhesive which I prefer willing to do is not toxic, It is ecological friendly material. Also doesn't harm human.

So recovery waste water nearly doesn't contaminate hydrosphere.

I have some data and report.

5. Others

This cup is suitable for hot and cold drinks. 

Aluminium attached with paper by plastic film is also possible.   

About 10% small part of cup may use plastic. 

0% plastic is also possible but it requires much cost to produce.

6. Attribute opening new era of human's health and eco-friendly world

This cup easily apply to other food industry. 

Cup instant noodle, cup rice and all kinds of cup food industry heat food nearly 100℃, so much amount harmful carcinogen permeate to food. 

This cup is very good to human health.

So If this submission is adapted, other companies that now mainly concern money profit, after all chase your consortium later.  It will be very good to human and the Earth.

Then new era of human health and eco-friendly world begins in the future.

I hope my invention may have some contribution to the better world.

How is your concept recoverable?

Resource recovery of paper and Aluminium is easy when using water-soluble adhesive. When we put this cup into water, then the adhesive solves with water, so paper and aluminium recovered easily. I experiment adhesives, compared them. 1. existing cup, In water. condition, PE and paper can not detach 4days later. I can detach them with hand 3days later. 2. I tested Aluminium laminated paper with various water-soluble adhesives. Aluminium and paper attached by several kinds of water-soluble adhesive was spontaneously detached 10mim ~ 4 hrs later In water condition. This cup's recovering process is simple and easy, and no need complicated facility, so every country can do it.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

1. safe to human health 2. reuse - people want to reuse this cup of oneself, because it is good, valuable 3. high rate recover - 90%, or more 4. virgin material small using 5. ecology safe - Water-soluble material is safe to nature. 6. high quality of recover material - nearly same original quality, because recover process is put them into water. 7. easy recover - no need special facillity to recover, so everywhere can recover 8. apply all kinds of disposable cup

1. rigions - UNITED STATES, SOUTH KOREA, and if necessary, other some countries 2. accomplish method (1) First I invite investment and order cooperated companys to make this recoverable cup. (2) If i receive long term order, I will establish factory it is the best policy to provide stabilized supply. Also I can make them with other partnership company.

I have not enough money to proceed futher making of recoverable cup. Present gap is that this sample cup is not using water-soluble adhesive. To be recoverable cup, water-soluble adhesive necessary, I ended test it laboratory. It is possible , no problem exist technically. But make it at factory, money required. I need R&D support.

All plastic including PE is environmental hormone and also cancer causing material(carcinogen). In my experience all kinds of plastic material(PE, PP, PS) is harm to our body, especially in high food(water) temperature.

sounds like an amazing idea hope you can find funding, however what will the cup include to avoid the aluminum heating or cooling too much for the human touch?

Thank you very much for your encouragement.
This cup also need sleeve or double layer paper as noodle cup to protect hot touch, cold touch has no problem.
I described this content in my draft, but I eliminated it in my submission, because it is normal common sense.
Aluminium is inner part of paper cup. outer part is thick paper, and people touch outer part normally.
Now in response of your ask, I tested boiling water in my Aluminium paper cup, and touch inner Aluminium part 1cm above boiled water, but it is not hot, rather directly outer paper part is more hot, so sleeve or duplicate cup is necessary.
To protect hot touch burn, A condition of normally using 100Ôäâ water as noodle cup, double layer cup is necessary. but coffee's temperature is not so high.

I am an applicant to NextGen Cup who with aluminium laminated paper cup.
I write this letter not for my interest,
but only to be realized genuine NextGen Cup for human and the earth..

I suggest some consideration for NextGen Cup.
You are now selecting top idea,
I hope you find proper idea as you want to find to satisfy ideal conditions.

  There are many good ideas in 29 short list, and it may satisfy NextGen Cup conditions.
But if those ideas can't satisfy all of wanted NextGen Cup conditions completely,
in case of that I hope your consortium investigate my idea once again.

Why do I write this letter?
Because my first submission have some wrong notice in it, as if it can't fully satisfy NextGen Cup conditions.
But it fully satisfy that. ,

My idea can satisfy all purpose of NextGen Cup, as 100% paper recovery and complete health safe.
(My previous submission I wrote 90% or more recovery,
but it is wrong because my understanding of paper cup machine is insufficient,
But now I have more understood it, to be true 100% recovery is very easy
by only using water soluble adhesive)
And further my aluminium laminated cup is very beautiful and can reuse by washing.

  Your consortium really needs to find the best top idea for NextGen Cup,
so If there are not genuine top idea among 29 short list,
then I hope you review my amended notice idea.
Because I think my idea can be completely satisfied to NextGen Cup conditions.

My aluminium laminated paper cup is
1. 100% paper recycle.
2. Paper recycling is very easy. Just put cup into water.
    Because it is combined with water soluble adhesive.
3. Safe to human health completely
4. The cost is similar or slightly more
5. Plastic is 0%.
6. Beautiful with metallic polish.
7. Other industry can adopt this idea with these benefits.

I hope this letter is some good thing for NextGen Cup.

I love the idea as it works similar to UHT packaging (Tetra Paks), as they also have an aluminium layer. Great, they would be 100% recyclable.

I believe it is harsher on the Earth and it uses more resources and energy to recycle aluminium than, it would to smelt it the first time.

Maybe a heat resistant polyurethane layer would be more viable and easier to to separate and recycle

Thanks your opinion.
Till now most food packing's Aluminium layer lies between plastic layer for easy packing.
But this cup is different, inner lining is aluminium foil to protect food from harmful plastic material permeation.

The main object of resource recovery is paper,
In this cup solution, paper recovery has no problem.
Aluminium recovery has not any problem also.
But Aluminium recovery is not important because aluminium amount is very small.
Aluminium foil is very thin.
We can easily compress recovering aluminium foil and it doesn’t decay even long time storage, so if aluminium storage become much amount, then we can recycle it.
In recovering process, aluminium isn’t contaminated nearly, and aluminium melting point is not high, only 660℃, so smelt is easy also.
Normally some recovery company may buy compressed aluminium.

I didn’t calculate the recovery cost of aluminium, and if the cost is higher than the value of aluminium, then landfill or incineration is more desirable than its recovery.
The compression of Al. foil is easy, so landfill is easy also.
Aluminium is abundant material in the Earth, and landfill is going Al. to its native place. Aluminium do not harm nature.

Considering garbage incineration treatment, thin aluminium like gum packing has no problem even incineration.
We have no problem with gum-paper incineration.

You recommended polyurethane, but it is a kind of plastic.
If a plastic have high melting point, But even at room temperature it eluted plastic carcinogen and environmental hormone, as you see my submission, PP(poly propylene) eluted plastic ingredients at room temperature as environmental hormone, but PP melting point is about 160~170℃.
Designated carcinogen PS mp. is also relatively high about 150~160℃.
And PE induce cancer in animal’s body temperature.
In this regards, how can we believe any plastic?
In conclusion, It may real that all plastic elute chemicals to food even room temperature.
Of course much more chemicals elute at high temperature.

We have to remember WHO(World Health Organization)’s 1st fact of 10 facts on food safety, that the food we eat is not contaminated with toxins and chemicals.

the plastics is easily separated from the paper for recycling, the aluminium is currently used to protect foods contained in the containers. Usually it would be layers of poly, aluminium and cardboard. UHT for example would be poly, cardboard, aluminium, cardboard then poly again. the poly to seal cardboard, the cardboard to give container shape and integrity, aluminium to protect foods from contaminants, more cardboard for added strength and another layer of poly to seal cardboard after printing. The poly also has a second purpose of sealing when parts are pressed together and heated.

aluminium can be harmful and can effect some foods, especially milky or acidic foods. I believe you will still need some sort of coating, did you have one in mind?

Thanks your concern and opinion.
I wonder do you really think plastic is more safe than aluminium?.
Aluminium is not harmful material, and generally used as follows.
1. Aluminium always used water supply, our drinking tab water was purified by aluminium coagulant.
2. When people go hospital with stomachache, doctor generally prescribe antacid medicine which is Al2(OH)3 to protect the stomach wall.

From search report, aluminium absorption rate is only 1% of our intake, remains are discharged from our body.

Aluminium is weak in acid, but most metal is similar.
And in my submisson I showed aluminium is very safe in range of PH4~PH9, and the PH of Coffee is PH 7. Most of other drinks are same. And most of all food is PH 7.

This cup’s object is not in acid drinks.

If some sour drinks less than PH 4 exists, It may be cold drinks, Normally we eat cold drink fast, and reaction is slow in cold state.
Then aluminium permeation amount will be very tiny small in comparison with antacid medicine, even in this case.

So no problem exist on human health. This cup is very safe.

You recommend me consider some plastic coating.
In my experience and knowledge, If aluminium is harmful, then plastic is thousands times more harmful.

Many people don’t realize plastic danger. We have to know the exact hazard.

For example, In aspect of environmental hormone, when plastic enter human body, then the plastic combines with hormone acceptors in our body instead of genuine hormone, so our body control is disordered.
Hormone amount is very small so the acceptor amount is very small also.

So even ppt(part per trillion) concentration plastic sufficiently combined much of our body's hormone acceptor. And react environmental hormone.
That's why we call the plastic an environmental hormone.

Above SCIENCE magazine 2008.11. reveals this.
In fact dozens ppm plastic concentration eluted to hot food from plastic vessel.
It's concentration is hundred thousand times much more than above ppt concentration.
It is nearly carcinogen also.
So I think to avoid plastic liner in hot food is more desirable.

May be you still seek some good plastic and recommend me to find.
But I hope you think this. Plastic is not good to nature and human.
And today we mainly use PP PE PS in food industry, because we have thought it is safe plastics than other ones.
But lately they turned to be carcinogen and environmental hormone at very tiny low concentration.
Of course other plastics already known are more harmful.
Then would we find another plastic? or other safe material? what is right?

I think the right direction of NextGen Cup lies in health safe, easy recovery, less plastic, reuse.
Haadang aluminium paper cup can satisfy all of this.
I am afraid plastic liner may not satisfy anyone of this.

We thought of making the liner with aluminum as well! However, we didn't think of using an adhesive because our concept is for a cup to have a removable aluminum liner. When people finish using the cup, they can just remove the aluminum liner from the paper cup and recycle appropriately. The recycling plants here prefers products to be one material or else the machines may not separate it properly.

How did you get your aluminum liner to be so perfect? We tried and it always turned out like those aluminum baking pans/cups (scrunched up).

To make wrinkleless aluminium liner, you first attach paper and aluminium in sheet state,  then you can make a cup with flat liner.
