Technical specification of the product.

 - The stirrer stays in the cup from production to post-user.
 - The material making-up the stirrer is virtually the same material that forms the cup itself.
 - Comes in standard sizes! no change in the cup rim or bottom diameter.
 - May be covered using a standard lid and used in cup dispensers with no further adaptation.
 - The Hybrid-Cup design may be used in paper-cups made from any fiber material and coating combination that works to seal the cup.

The unified-design allows for reduced production and supply efforts, as well as better operational performance of the coffee dispensary:

In the USA and UK, recovery and recycling schemes are already available for paper-cups, however, stirrers were forgotten in this process. The Hybrid-Cup enables stirrers to be recovered, with no extra effort, along side the cup.

How is your concept recoverable?

While cups are being recovered in growing numbers, stirrers end up in landfills at best. Since the cup material reaches higher recycling rates than the wood or plastic stirrers we recognized that conjoining the two functions to one material holds positive environmental impact. Another main contribution is in the elimination of a small and separate stir stick that is often considered to small to worry about when discarded, and poses a problem to collect as well as a danger to marine-life. Thus, the elimination of the separate stir-stick reduces both the pollution caused by the double production efforts as well as the post user waste.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Today's disposable cups and stirrers are formed in two separate production lines, involving two separate lines of machines, workers, packaging, storage and shipping. Conjoining the cup and stirrer to ONE product, the Hybrid-Cup, eliminates these double logistics and their negative effect on the environment.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

The main markets for the Hybrid-Cup are the suppliers and distributors in western markets (stirrer bans). We are teaming up with both equipment manufacturers and cup manufacturers in the industry to allow for the production and supply of the Hybrid-Cup. The Hybrid-cup can be produced in today's cup machines with simple adaptations!

Benefits along the value chain of the disposable cup: Production: Using one production-line for both products, reduces much of the double logistics taking place to supply the means of stirring along side cup. Supply and retailer: Using only the cup box, saves on storage space and packaging material. Coffee dispensary: - No need to stack stirrers on a counter - No need to clean drops of coffee from used stirrers in the vicinity of the bin and counter tops. - Eliminates over-consumption of stirrers. - The hybrid stirrer is brandable! - Reduced space demands hold extra value in vending machines and in-flight service. End-user: Easy to use, hygienic stirrer

Gaining interest from a large scale customer of the industry is paramount to the success in shifting the production efforts towards the unitary production method to truly make an impact. We are ready to start industrial level production (in co-op) Funding will allow wider-compatibility to the equipment used by various manufacturers, thus enabling more manufacturers and suppliers to provide the Hybrid-Cup. The mentoring process will provide invaluable insight regarding the scaling process.
