Idea Title

Hemp Cup

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

The proposed cup is made from industrial hemp - a variety of Cannabis specifically grown for industrial uses. This is a 100% biodegradable material which is converted by microorganisms into water and carbon dioxide within several months.

Growing hemp allows to produce large amounts of raw material (8-10 tons per hectare). Hemp's straw contains about 30% of fiber useful for cellulose production. Cups made from such cellulose are water-resistant and are not affected by fats.

It is also important to note that there are breeds of hemp cultivated in Russia which have no psychoactive contents. Thus, this makes it use safe in production of food containers.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Hot / Cold Fiber Cup

How is your concept recoverable?

Producing these cups helps decrease the use of fiber cups and cellulose to produce them. This saves our forests and lowers the amount of non-biodegradable trash that we produce.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Growing hemp has a positive impact on the environment: - hemp can be grown on contaminated soils and clean them (more specifically, cleans soil from the remains of heavy metals) - growing hemp prepares the soil for its later use in growing food crops

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

Production regions for hemp must have appropriate climate conditions. Examples are Spain, France, Australia, Russia, China, Romania, South Korea.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Piloting

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

Financial support and market access

Mentorship Needs (please select up to 3)

  • Branding / Marketing and Storytelling
  • Legal
  • Fundraising / Finance

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

There are 7 of us mentioned here, but we drew inspirations from many others who joined our first October meeting in Moscow. Collectively we represent diverse backgrounds and share many things in common, thoughtfulness about nature being just one.

In what city are you located?

In what country are you located?

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

The funding will help us build the factory with equipment that supports continuous operation. The factory will be able to produce: 10000 tons/year of whitened cellulose from hemp fiber 10000 tons/year of whitened cellulose from hemp straw
