Idea Title

Huddle cups

Idea Summary

Huddle cups are eco friendly, heat resistant and bio degradable cups that does not require any additional lid assembly. The corrugated design enables the cup to transform into a coffee cup with lid.

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

The idea completely eliminates the need for having separate lid for disposable coffee cups. These injection mouldable cups are made of bamboo fiber mixed with bio degradable plastic. The cup is bio degradable, heat resistant and recyclable. The beauty of the design is that the whole arrangement can be made in a single injection molding die process. There is no need for the coffee serving chains to source for separate lid manufacturers. The lid is inseparable from the cup and made of the same material. The elastic property of the material helps in achieving the corrugated design approach. Since the lid is a part of the cup, the concept also reduces manufacturing cost for lid.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Hot / Cold Fiber Cup

How is your concept recoverable?

Yes, the material can be recovered and reused by mixing with virgin raw material. The material degrades if buried in soil. If it is not burried, the material can be reused.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

The material is bio degradable hence if not recovered "huddle cups" would return back to earth. Hence making it an eco-friendly solution

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

The product can be used anywhere. Its is a healthier option compared to paper cups with plastic coating.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

Coffee house chains : The cup comes with an in built lid hence vendors do not need to source for or manufacture additional lid for coffee cups. Coffee drinkers : The solution is healthier compared to traditional paper cups with plastic coating. Since the lid is inbuilt, these is no chance for the lid to slip and fall from the coffee cup. Hence improving the coffee drinking experience. Coffee servers : Since the cup comes with an inbuilt lid. Serving coffee is much more enjoyable. The used vendor to fill coffee and apply pressure at the top to convert the cup to " cup + lid ". Waste recovery : Since the cup and lid is one unit, the waste need not be segregated.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Prototyping

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

We have been in the process of exploring the material. The property of the material is best suited for this solution since the material is flexible and strong. We would need to make multiple prototypes and test before manufacturing. We definitely have the know how to develop a good product with enough financial aid. Once the final sample is ready we may need assistance in scaling up.

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

We are a company that is looking for innovative uses for bamboo fiber based eco friendly material. Our first product was huddle plates, an innovative, space saving and eco friendly dinnerware. Please visit

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

The funding would help us to refine the concept further to a manufacturing stage. As designers we intend to make multiple prototypes and perform user testing until we come up with an appropriate design.
