Idea Title

Cosmos Cup

Idea Summary

Cosmos Cup is designed for the user. It has excellent insulating qualities for preserving hot or cold drinks in hot or cold weather and the lid design eliminates the need for straws.

Company / Organization Name (if applicable)

Website (if applicable)

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

I do not have a prototype of the lid but I hope the drawing can bring some clarity to how it will look and function.

Cosmos Cup was designed to enhance the user experience, cut down on the amount of waste going to land fills, and be 100% recyclable.

Today plastic and styrofoam cups are used one time and then thrown away. I have combined the qualities of these two cups to create a cup that is affordable, and very desirable to want to keep and reuse. I have incorporated a lid design that eliminates the need for straws, reduces spills, and fully insulates the cup.

I have placed these cups in my dishwasher and reused them multiple times without any disappointment and when you are done with them they are 100% recyclable.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Hot / Cold Fiber Cup
  • Cup Lids
  • Straws
  • Cup Sleeve
  • Cup Liner
  • Reusable System
  • Alternative Delivery System

How is your concept recoverable?

The design , performance and eye catching looks of the Cosmos Cup makes the recoverability of it desirable to consumers. The recoverability of Cosmos Cup is defined by the reuse of it and not by a system of manufacture, collect and recycle that uses the cheapest standards possible to manufacture cups, consuming huge amounts of energy and resources in a repetitive cycle of waste and more waste. The recoverability of any end product is in the hands of the consumer. They must see a value in it to gain their interest or favor so they will participate. Cosmos Cups after their life span is 100% recyclable.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Cosmos Cup liners and insulated shells can be made of many different products available today depending on the desired outcome. Some of the products could possibly come out of the Next Gen Cup Challenge! The lid design for Cosmos Cup eliminates the need for a straw, removing them from the cycle of waste.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

The main market for Cosmos Cup would be the to-go cup. The insulating factor of Cosmos Cup keeps it from condensating and creating a mess. Office and construction workers would love an insulated cup to take back to the job, reuse the next day with a discounted refill. You can take it home and reuse it for family gatherings and parties, eliminating the need to buy cheap cups at a store. Starbucks, McDonalds and others companies could use Cosmos Cup as a universal cup, because no one has ever seen this cup before it could always be identified as The Next Gen Cup, associated with a campaign of discounted refills at any establishment no matter where the drink was purchased, again using less cups

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Prototyping

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

The biggest challenge for me is finance. With financial support I could move on to next step. Prototype the lid and then a final product of cup and lid.

Mentorship Needs (please select up to 3)

  • Materials and Technical Development
  • Sustainability and Recoverability
  • Product / Industrial Design and Prototyping

Tell us about yourself and your team. What is your background and experience?

I have no team, just me. I have always enjoyed metal machining and plastics. My occupation is a carpenter but I have a small machine shop. I built the molds, and machinery to form my prototype. Labor of love!

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

Working with the Consortium Partners would be an incredible opportunity. With all of these educated and interested minds how could we not come up with an amazing cup that meets or exceeds the desired outcome. Any funding that could be awarded to me , I would want to work closely with the Consortium Partners to ensure it is spent in the most beneficial ways to achieve their desired outcome. Success to me would be being part of a solution.
